Dr. Ladas completed her PhD in 2013 which was awarded by the University of Sheffield. Her topic was neuroplasticity and specifically the phenomenon of bilingualism and its effects on attention processes throughout the lifespan. She was a a scientific coordinator in the Long Lasting Memories project (European Commission) , investigating neuroplasticity in older individuals' brain, as well as a researcher in other projects funded by the European Commission. She has also collaborated with the Spanish University of Almeria, as a researcher. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at City College, University of York europe Campus . She is also a Researcher at the Neuroscience Research Center (NEUREC) the research hub of CITY College, University of York europe Campus, as well as a Research Associate at the South East European Research Centre (SEERC), in the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Cluster. She is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) as well as a Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter. Moreover, she has worked with children with autism and learning difficulties .
Introduction to Psychology, Topics in Psychology, Sensation and Perception, Philosophy of Science and Ethics, Interdisciplinary Psychology, Child Development, Reasoning & Critical Thinking for Psychologists, Contemporary Issues in Educational Psychology, Research Project Workshops.
My primary research interest lies in understanding neuroplasticity in oncological patients, survivors, and their carers, with a particular focus on how cancer and its treatments influence brain function, cognition, and emotional well-being. I am actively engaged in designing and testing digital health solutions that harness neuroplastic mechanisms to enhance cognitive-emotional resilience and support recovery in these populations.
Building on this core interest, I also explore neuroplasticity in relation to major life experiences and conditions—such as addiction, bilingualism, and cognitive aging—to elucidate how diverse experiences shape the brain’s adaptive potential throughout the lifespan. In parallel, I investigate sleep-related neuroplasticity and the neuroscientific study of consciousness, integrating insights from the philosophy of mind to bridge subjective experience with objective neural mechanisms.
Overall, my research aims to connect neural, cognitive, and experiential dimensions of human plasticity—across health, disease, and consciousness.
Dr. Ladas supervises UG & postgraduate students (MSc & PhD) on the topics of the cognitive effects of bilingualism and dopamine activity (measured with Eye Blink Rates) , drug addiction, neurplasticity and dopamine activity.
