Library redevelopment project

Completed in September 2022, the Library redevelopment project, invested in the creation and the refurbishment of innovative spaces and facilities, to meet the changing needs of our vibrant and diverse student community with the aim to provide high-quality and varied study and working spaces.

Key outcomes

  • Creation of additional working spaces to accommodate our ever-growing number of users.
  • Redevelopment of existing spaces, making them more accessible, adaptable, modern and innovative.
  • Increased computing & video conference facilities.
  • Improved lighting in all library premises.
  • Introduced fresh services to embrace new technologies and promote digital literacy.

The Library Entrance

To add a fresh look to the premises, the Library Entrance was re-painted with vibrant colors that match the innovative and welcoming spirit of the library.

The Green Reading Room

Expanding services & facilities for study and working

Responding to student feedback for an all-in-one-place study & working facility that remains open in extended hours, the Library – fully refurbished the former Silent Room returning it to use, as a reading room – open 7 days a week.
In the newly room, renamed as The Green Reading Room, users will find:

  • Individual study desks
  • Working tables
  • Laptop working spaces
  • Library research/work PCs
  • Print and scan facilities
  • Paper, stationery, etc

Service hours

  • Monday to Friday: 08.30-21.45
  • Weekends: hours vary, depending on running courses during specific weekends. Users need to consult with the ground floor L. Sofou Secretariat for service hours.

 

Project Room 2

Upgrading facilities for group work

To facilitate the increased need of students for additional space to work on their presentations and academic/industrial projects, the Library re-modeled and furnished a room which is now available upon advanced booking.

Booking cannot exceed two hours a day and no more than three per week by the same group.

Study space capacity

The Library increased the number of reading spaces, whilst maintaining accessibility of physical collections in the premises – to accommodate the needs of those students who need to have access to both space and books in the same place.

Our purpose

The Library will continually review the use and purpose of the spaces and facilities, listen to student feedback and proceed to changes, if needed.
